Global Spotlight Series – USA

November 24

The Space Between: Nature as a Place to Heal and Reconnect

Session Date: 24.11.25
Session Time: 15.00h (Barcelona) / 07.00h (Chicago)
Format: Online
Sociodemographic Focus: Young Adult Cancer Survivors

How can nature help young adults navigate life after cancer?

At True North Treks, a nonprofit supporting adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors, healing begins with reconnecting to the land, to oneself, and to others. Through mindful movement in remote natural settings, participants are guided to find stillness, strength, and shared experience far from the clinical walls of treatment centers.

This session explores the story and mission of True North Treks, and how its nature-based programs are reshaping survivorship support. We’ll examine the role of backpacking, meditation, and peer connection in promoting long-term well-being, and hear insights from outcomes that point to the power of this unique approach.

Led by Professor David Victorson (Northwestern University and True North Treks), the discussion invites reflection on how wild places can offer a path toward wholeness, purpose, and belonging.
